  • Tax Prep Software Discounts and Prices

If you are eligible for free tax filing, congratulations, use it!

For those of you who use tax software and have to pay for it, where are you finding the best discounts this year?

I use Turbo Tax (Self-Employed). I was "shopping around" on-line over the weekend and found the best price via PenFed, USAA, Fidelity, or TRowe Price ($20 discount). Today when going directly to the Intuit Turbo Tax web site the price is the same, $20 less than it was over the weekend, with no additional discount for going through one of the institutions mentioned above. I've noticed in past years that the prices seem to change throughout the tax season and it looks like this year is no different.

Has anyone else started price shopping for tax software yet? Where are you finding the best prices?

I just got an email from discover with a link to save $20 with tubo tax. I haven't gotten a discount on turbo tax since Vanguard stopped offering it👍

I heard Fidelity usually offers a discount if you have an account. I qualified for tax software surveys quite a few times and got to use the software for free. I had to pay to file. Costco usually has at least one brand on sale. Or you can sign up for alerts on slickdeals.net. There are some pretty good deals if you don't mind rebates and shopping portals.

I have finally found a tax professional that actually knows what she is doing and our taxes have been too complex for me the past few years, so I plan on just making an appt. It took me a solid week and had to file a revision the last time I did it myself because my husband's company sends his forms piecemeal and late. I wind up having to do a lot of math, and I'm not great at it. His W2 didn't come until 2-20 last year, and we didn't get the form to show how much company stock he sold until after the tax deadline. I thought there was a law about that.
