There are CDs and bonds that pay 5% guaranteed.

Why do you keep asking about high income earners vs. lottery winners? What difference does that make?

I'd say the advice would not be the same because the high income earner has an ongoing source of income. The lottery winner has a one-time windfall to manage with no future earnings to deal with.

Yes, that's how investments work. Whatever money is left invested keeps earning but whatever you pull out and spend obviously doesn't.

Let's say you put $1,000 in your bank account and it pays 3% interest. If a month later you take out $100, you'll now be earning interest on $900 instead of $1,000.

The chances that the back story is legit, are about as good as winning the lottery in the first place, but heck who knows.

Our only options (as users) are flag, ignore, or reply. Personally I try to take them at face value, but I will reply with quotes. If nothing else it gives you a chance to see if they change the post.

One positive to replying to their post is it might answer someone else's question in the future.

I have a pretty good "spam detector" sense, but as a moderator, I always give the poster the benefit of the doubt until the spam actually appears. One thing that we see here often is a new person posting something and then going back days or weeks later and editing their post to add the spam link, but in those cases, they typically only make 1 or 2 posts and then disappear. They don't engage in ongoing conversation as is happening here, so who knows. Maybe it's legit.
