This just doesn’t rise to the level for me to raise hell over. I don’t think her bank would bat two eye lashes about refunding it, but just not my nut to crack.

She’s a good friend regardless if she calls or not. Some people aren’t comfortable asking for these kind of things. I told her to give it to her son if she does receive the refund.

No thank you note but I’m sure one will be in the mail soon. He’s 17 and just graduated high school. He’s been enjoying his first week of freedom, I don’t expect his first summer activity to be writing thank you notes.

This is a manner of perspective and expectations. I wouldn't "ask" the bank, I would "demand it".

As far as Thank You cards go, our Mother had my Sister and I issue them for every card or present we received. However in general don't hold your breath. I've given money to friends for weddings and my Sister's inlaw's kids for graduation and never seen a card. I don't remember if it was Dave Ramsey or Dale Carnegie (or both) who discussed Luke 17:11-19. It basically states Jesus healed 10 people, and only 1 came back to thank him. If only 1 in 10 people would thank Jesus, why should we expect any thanks from anyone at all.

You're not paranoid. Common sense has left the building in many cases. Also for underhandedness, Banks particularly will structure fees to have the maximum effect on you. For example in some cases, if you had $10 in an account and made (5) $1 purchases, and then (1) $20 purchase and over drew the account, they may reorder the debts such that the $20 fell first, dinging you six times instead of once.
