  • Anyone Sole Proprietors With Solo 401k Not Happy With It?

DH is self-employed. He had a SEP IRA (and Keogh plan before that), but now we're planning to switch to a solo 401k. Back when we switched to the SEP IRA we researched all available options and consulted a CPA, and at the time the SEP made the most sense. But I don't think it does any more. Honestly, I'm wishing we'd made the switch a year or two earlier so that we could have deferred taxes on more income.

Before sending off the paperwork to set up the solo 401k, I thought I'd check and see if any SA members who have (or had) a solo 401k discovered any unexpected negatives after opening it? I've already done research so I'm aware of the general pros and cons, but wanted to hear from anyone who has actually opened one if there were any negative "surprises."

    Thanks.

Mods - Feel free to delete this thread. I've completed the solo 401(k) paperwork and am dropping it in the mail today. If there are any surprise negatives for having done this, I guess I'll be finding out in the years ahead.
