Hi,
In August, an incident occurred which led my husband and I to believe that our identities had been compromised. We responded by immediately placing security freezes on our credit reports with all three credit bureaus.
At the time, we thought this prudent, especially as we are currently NOT looking to buy a car or a home. However, we continued to receive unsolicited credit offers in the mail - which we believed would have stopped once we placed a fraud alert on our reports. Apparently, we should have to "OPT OUT" of these offers specifically, which makes me wonder what the point of a security freeze is ? It's because someone may have compromised our identities that we are telling potential lenders to check with us before issuing credit, right ? Then why would they - in violation of our security freeze - continue to send us offers of credit, just because we haven't "specifically opted out of these offers" ?
What am I missing here ?
Also, I am no longer able to order a credit report online - it has been 3 months since the incident occurred and we want to check our reports again, but are told that we cannot order these online. Help !!
Finally, does anyone have any experience with credit monitoring services such as LifeLock ? Are they worth the money ?
Please advise. Thank you.
