  • Please suggest cheap home insurance

I've not filed any claims and to me this is just a requirement to those with mortgage. I live in a great neighborhood and on a high ground that even historic floods in the State could not reach. It's a single detached house so there's no fire cause by careless neighbors attached who live in condos/townhouses.

As such I just want to cheapest home insurance year in year out.

    Please suggest. Thanks.

You think insuring one's home is only for people with mortgages? Really?

For most people, their home is their most valuable asset by far, especially if they own it outright. Why would you not want to protect it?

It doesn't take a flood or a criminal to trigger a claim. We've had 2 claims since buying our home. There was a short and fire in our circuit box. Thankfully, the box itself contained the fire and it didn't spread into the wiring and walls of the house.

The other was more serious, and had nothing to do with the house. My wife's van caught fire in our driveway. The explosion damaged our garage door. The fire melted a crater into the driveway, burned out a section of our front lawn and burned a tree that needed to be taken care of. And the home insurance also covered the contents of the vehicle that were destroyed (tools, CDs, etc.).

Don't skimp on home insurance. Of course, get multiple quotes to get the best price for the coverage you need, but don't skimp on that coverage. Stuff happens. Lightening strikes. Fires start. Things break and damage other things.

Agreed. You might consider whether you are a member of a group, it could be a service or professional organization, or an alumni association to see if you could get less expensive coverage for being a member. Your employer may offer coverage for your home. Check anywhere you can think of for mulitple quotes.

Shop around. You may be able to get a discount by combining with auto insurance. Upping the deductible can reduce your premium (as long as you could cover the deductible out of pocket if it came to that).

Don't forget that you're not only insuring your house, you are also covering for liability if someone gets injured on your property.

Be careful of super cheap insurance. If/when you do have a claim (and eventually you will, everyone does)that company will be a MAJOR PITA to deal with and get a full replacement cost settlement from.

you can get a fire policy only without any coverage for theft and vandalism as a homeowners policy would cover. a standard fire policy covers fire and flood here in california, my dad dropped his homeowners and went fire only for a long time. i have fire policies on my rentals and had to make 2 claims for water damage due to pipe breakage, got paid off both times.
