I'm going to be moving from the USA to Europe soon, but I'm not exactly sure what to tell my bank and what to do with my debit card. My card expires this year so I want to get it renewed early so I'm not stuck overseas with an expired card, plus in the process of renewing it I want to get a card that has the chip in it because in Europe magnetic stripe cards are rejected many times. Also thing thing is I do not have a residence established in Europe yet. So I'm just wondering what should I do? Thanks.

Do you have an established point of contact in Europe, possibly a relative, friend or employer? Which USA bank hs a linked branch or partnered with a bank in your new location? Is it your plan to use your current debit card as an ATM card in your European location? This is an expensive choice as there are transaction fees from both your bank and the financial institution you use.
It's merely a few computer clicks to transfer funds from your current USA account to your soon to be established account in your new city. If you don't like that choice, tell your bank you want a new debit card with an chip as you'll be travelling and want the extra security the embedded card offers.
