Nothing you haven't heard a hundred times.

    Pay your bills on time.
    Use credit responsibly.
Don't charge more than 10-20% of your credit limit.
    Observe the guidelines for borrowing.

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

You should take a photo and show it here as a sort of trophy!

There are several different credit scoring models. The standard FICO score goes to 850 but there are other scoring systems that use a different scale.

A credit score doesn't really matter actually. Anything above 750 is considered really good credit. It's what you DO with your credit that is the difference. Getting 1. rewards (cash back or mileage for credit cards assuming you pay the balance off every month on time) and 2. low interest rates on large loans (like a mortgage) are what matters.

A high credit score simply for the sake of a high credit score for bragging rights is really... Well, not worth much. Lol.

              What Eagle said.

We just closed our oldest cc (20 years old). Why? It was a legacy card with a really low limit, we weren't using it, and CITI wouldn't let us transfer it to a useful card. They were incredibly unhelpful both times we tried working with them over the phone. I don't have time for that kind of BS in my life. Shut it down and opened a new card online with AMEX with great rewards and ten times the card limit, all in about 5 minutes.

People are too fearful of doing the "wrong" thing and the cc companies use that to their advantage. We have great credit scores and history and pay bills in full and on time every month. By the time the card falls off our history 10 years from now, it will have no material impact on our lives (or probably even our scores). I couldn't care less if my score is 780 or 850, as long as I'm getting the lowest possible loan rates (which I am).
