  • Best way to use Chase reward points

    Hello,
I have over 190k Chase Reward points from my chase freedom credit card. What is the best way to use them? I was just about to get the money credited to my Chase checking account till I read this //thepointsguy.com/2014/05/what-is-a-point-or-mile-worth-new-monthly-valuation-series/ which says that each chase point should be 2 cents instead of the 1 cent I will get for cash back. Does anyone agree with this valuation?

From what I've seen of chase rewards is a 1:1 ratio on cash or gift cards, but it gets worse if you try and buy merchandise because you can usually find it cheaper than they are offering it. So my advice would be to either apply it to the balance or have the cash direct deposited.

I believe that article is only discussion the value of points in terms of airline miles. If you aren't considering buying a plane ticket with your rewards points, then it should be a 1:1 ratio. (Personally, unless there's a stellar deal on a gift card or merchandise, which I haven't found in the last several years, I plan to take the cash and then use my Chase card to buy whatever I was going to use the rewards for, so I can get more rewards. )
