Hi everyone,
I thought I'd share with everyone how to determine what your projected Social Security benefits will look like, based on your history of earnings. This information is freely obtainable, yet many are not aware of this.
First of all, you (and your spouse, if you are married) each need to create accounts on the Social Security Administration website. It is free to do so. The link to this site is:
https://secure.ssa.gov/RIL/SiView.do
By successfully creating an account on this government website, you can obtain the following information:
1. You can view what your estimated monthly Social Security benefits at age 62 (earliest retirement age), at Full Retirement (current maximum age is 67), and age 70 (the current latest age that you can defer benefits to);
2. You can view your Social Security disability monthly benefits that your family would be eligible to receive, should you die;
3. You can view the Survivor's monthly benefits that your family would be eligible to receive, should you die;
4. You can view your annual reported earnings since you started paying Social Security and Medicare taxes, which has been furnished to the Social Security Administration by the IRS. All of these annual amounts should be reviewed, and challenged, if you disagree with them (you may need to consult with your past tax returns). These amounts reported directly affect your monthly Social Security benefits.
The Social Security Administration uses your highest 35 years of earnings to calculate the aforementioned monthly benefits. You must work a minimum of 10 years (or 40 quarters), to be eligible for Social Security benefits.
Create your accounts today, and stay ahead of the retirement curve.
Happy Retirement Planning!
