Currently $0 as well..at least I consider it $0 when there are still student loans that needs to be paid off and mortgage.

Good news is I have 1 more year of this nonsense and then the spouse and I will have about 15k left over/month.

After maxing 401k's, Roth, company stock program, and expenses we have ~1500 left over that most of which goes to our mortgage and the remaining few hundred goes towards our EF to trickle up to my goal.

I would concur with many of the people here. We have $0 left over. However, that wasn't true a year ago. When we were both working most of my income was 'leftover'. We were maxing out 401k's and Roths, so once our EF was funded, we started a taxable retirement account with Vanguard. That now takes up our extra money. I would imagine this is true of many people who are saying zero is extra.

After everything is said and done with my payments, I estimate around $1400 left over at the end of each month.

i basically have NOTHING left over because I do ZERO based budgeting.

I transfer a BIG chunk of money every month to another account for erratic expenses such as real estate taxes, homeowners insurance, auto insurance, auto repairs, home repairs, fed & state taxes (I have nothng witheld), gifts, vacation............
