  • Disabled And In Need Of Advice!!!

i am recently disabled. As a result, i am receiving a $1137 monthly income. This money will be present, hopefully, in my retirement years. i have a few questions and would be very thankful if someone could provide some guidance:

--1. In addition to the $1137, i am able to work a little, bringing in approx. $550. Saying that my monthly income (SSDI plus work) is $1700, how much should I put monthly into my current Roth IRA? i am 37 years old and currently have $8,000 in the Roth IRA. i will have the ongoing $1137 monthly guaranteed through retirement years and also roth finances in retirement age, but i have no clue as to how much i should be saving in addition to that $1137.

--2. i have a 403B from my previous job at approx.$6000. Should i roll this over to a standard or Roth IRA (and absorb the taxes)? Or should I keep it as a 403B? There would be no money going into the 403B either via my finances or employer-matching. i would just leave it to mature.

--3. Considering that i have a certain $1137 monthly, do i need an emergency fund? Currently i have about $6,000 saved up in a market-based savings account, but is this neccessary? If i were to lose my job, i would still have that $1137 coming in monthly.

--4. Lastly, i try to keep $1500 of left-over funds in my checking account at the end of the month. This, ii guess is 'dead money.' all things considered, is this step necessary? Or would i be free to spend some or should i put some of this left-over money into either the IRA or my market-based savings account?

I really would appreciate some advice and guidance. Thanks a lot.

If you are willing to give details of your spending each month we can offer some helpful ideas. How much is rent, heat, electric, cell phone, food/eating out, and transportation? Do you have a car? How much are you paying on the loan, gas, parking and repairs? Do you have any loans, any credit cards you are paying down? How much does your bank charge you in fees or charges?

What products do you hold in 403B, Roth or any other savings? I really like keeping $ 1,500. in your checking account in case there is an unplanned cost or something gets mixed up. Banks always take money out first and puts deposits into the account last. They make a lot of money with that process because people make mistakes.

You just posted the same thing in the following thread a week ago. See below.

      You received some good advice.

Is there something more specific that you want? There is no need to keep posting the same question over and over again. Especially when members are responding and giving advice to you. A better strategy would be to return to the thread and reply to the advice given to keep the conversation going and to provide us all with more details and information.
