  • Saving a ton on massage therapy

I am a full time massage therapist and we have to get bodywork done on occasion in order to be able to keep doing our jobs. Lately I've been relying on trades as much as possible, but they are hard to schedule and often have to be cancelled at the last minute. So I have been going to my old massage school around once a month, where they charge 35$ for a hour.

Last week another LMP mentioned a small school that is just a few blocks from my apartment. The head instructor is kind of a big deal as she has written several nationally used text books, one of which was used in my school. I emailed them today to see what they charge for student massages in their clinic, and it's only 10$ for an hour! It definitely pays to check out other options.

What is the rationale behind that requirement? For someone who is brand new to doing massages, I would understand, but if you've been making a living at it for a while, I think you would have full intuition and understanding about it...and would not forget.

It's not any kind of legal requirement, although we do have to get continuing education credits at a cost of around 200 a year. You just cannot physically keep doing massage full time without ever recieving any yourself or you will be in too much pain to work, and are at a higher risk for permanent injury. No less than twice a month is the recommendation.

I would really like to get a massage therapy from my chiropractor. I have been going to him for a long time now and would feel more comfortable getting a massage from him only. Most of the chiropractor also offers massage therapy.

Chiropractors do not do massage therapy in my state. And I am not really sure why that would be preferable to using a licensed massage therapist anyway.
