You actually get very little savings when it comes to any normal japanese cars like civics/corollas/camerys when buying used. They don't depreciate like a Mercedes S600 would, so sometimes it really doesn't matter too much if you buy a new civic.

If you are looking for luxury cars, then it's a different story. You can get a Mecedes CLS AMG with 20k miles on it for 35k, while a new one set you back 80k..so buying new is never a good idea and there's a reason why high end luxury cars depreciate like crazy, it's because people who buys those classes of cars ONLY want the newest and best.

Speaking for myself, I will probably never buy a new car, because I've been completely satisfied buying used and do not feel the extra money spent on a new car would be worth it for me.
I agree that it's a pattern. I've only ever had or bought used cars and had great experiences with them. Since I've had great experiences I plan to buy used cars in the future. In fact I'm actually looking for a new-to-me car and of course I'm looking at used models.

I wasn't really comfortable with this car's price tag. I can see the point of poor choice honestly. He will drive it a very long time. But again, he wanted a "cool" car with a spoiler. He is a very responsible guy(manages the bill paying, no drinking on his bowling league night, partying, or wasting his money) He is frugal on his clothing and even the snacks he buys himself.

He was harping on getting a big car. He's only 5'10" but doesn't like small cars like saturns . Sometimes the small cars are cheaper.

I was confused because used cars aren't cheap either ! No rebates.

Well tomorrow the black car is getting custom metallic gray pin striping stickers to add to its "coolness" factor.
