  • Are Dividends Part of Your Income?

In my case, 60% of my passive income comes from stock dividends. That steady inflow of cash makes a gigantic difference in my budget.

How about you? Are dividends an important part of your income stream?

I'm not retired so the answer is no. All of my dividends and capital gains get reinvested. Once I do retire, however, I'm sure my answer will change and I'll start drawing out some of that investment income.

Not yet. Dividends in tax-advantaged accounts just get reinvested.

This is the first year I have not had dividends in our taxable accounts reinvested, however. They are being used for short term investments, as we prepare for retirement.

Dividends are taxed. Index funds may be better.
