I was just perusing some of the Budgeting Articles and came across one that talked about the billions of dollars in unclaimed property being held by state treasury departments across the country. Coincidentally, this past month I successfully reclaimed just over $100 in unclaimed property that I didn't even know existed!
I'd first heard about this on "Dateline NBC", looked into it, and a month later the check was in my hand.
Believe me, I thought I would be the LAST persion who would have unclaimed property anywhere, so if you've never looked into this, LOOK INTO IT! (As it happens, I did searches using the names of various relatives/friends and found two MORE people I know who have unclaimed property -- one of them being my father!)
Take a look at this thread to learn more about it. I go into a bit more detail about how I reclaimed my $103.17, and links are provided as well.
FYI -- there is NO CHARGE to submit an inquiry to your state's unclaimed property division, so if you come across a "service" that charges a fee, RUN!
Here's hoping some of you are as lucky as I was!
