  • Citi Credit Cards are terrible

Constantly getting security freezes. Happened 3 times at a restaurant a few blocks from my billing address. Card gets declined even though I always pay off my account in full. I get a different BS story every time I call them to get the freeze lifted. I'm calling them up tomorrow to cancel all my Citi cards. And their customer service is awful. If you ever have an issue with your card, be prepared to take a day off work to sort it out with customer service.

There are so many better card issuers out there. Chase and US Bank are as wonderful as big banks can get. I'm still puzzled how Citi gets any customers. I had major issues with their checking account customer service. Closed my account within 4 months of opening and went back to US Bank. I've had US Bank since 2006 and no issues at all. I was moving to Citi because there is a branch right next to my office. The convenience of that is so not worth the hassle!

Just a heads up if anyone is looking to open any type of account with Citi.

I've only used Citi for one-time credit card reward bonuses. But, I also really dislike them.

The odd thing is they *love* my spouse. We have basically identical credit profiles and credit scores (as we have about 15 years of shared credit). But anyway, so they LOVE my spouse and send him endless credit card offers. They sent him really great bonus deals through direct mail. Stuff like, open a card and get $500+ cash back after you spend $1,000. Then after he got his bonus he would call to close his card. They would beg him to keep it open, and would pay him to do so. I think they sent him $50, two or 3 times, to keep one card open for another 30 days for every $50. We haven't done a Citi credit reward in a while, but I swear at least 3 times a week my spouse gets a 0% balance transfer offer from Citi.

Me??? I didn't get any cushy offers. I don't think I get *any* Citi offers. I did do one mass-offered reward. The customer service was always very rude to me.

I just found the whole thing extra funny because my dh was obviously on some "good list" and I somehow ended up on the opposite list. Having a 800+ credit score, I have personally never had a credit card company be so rude to me. You hear that they don't like "deadbeats" who pay off their cards every month. But my experience is usually they are pretty willing to bend over backwards in the chance that you stick with them, and maybe some day run up a balance. They can't be complaining about the merchant fees they get from people like me, either. So yeah, I have never met a credit card company so disinterested in my business.

      Me too!

Citi loves my DH too--and never offers me anything. What's up with that?
They were practically in tears when he canceled his card, and now they send him endless offers about how much they want him back. Odd?

        My thoughts about Citcards -

        * I had an account with them for years before I switched to Capitol One

        * Citi made me a sweet rewards offer when I asked to cancel, I don't remember the specifics but it was definitely worth holding onto for another six months to get the reward incentive.

        * I don't recall receiving any more offers from them in the mail although I shred that type of amil almost unconsciously when i receive it.

** Biggest beef with them - When you pay for transactions, the transactions don't show as pending transaction online in real time. That created a headache updating my Excel budget spreadsheet because you can't update your Excel budget spreadsheet if the numbers aren't there online! That was a pain, but it is no more becaause Capitol One updates your transactions online in real time, segregated by pending and completed transactions.
