  • Health insurance

    Hello All....
I would appreciate some advice about health insurance. I need to get a healthcare for myself and my infant. I have virtually no income, however I have a nice amount of investment stocks. Because of my investments, i would not qualify for medicaid. My husband and I are separated but he voluntarily provides enough for me to carefully live on while caring for our infant. I now need to buy my own health insurance. What is the wisest way? Would starting a small business help (regardless of whether the business is very profitable)? Or is there an easier way? Thanks so much for your advice!

So you and your husband are separated but still married and he is still supporting you. How were you insured before the two of you separated? Could you still be on his insurance plan assuming he has coverage?

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

      Insurrance

Yes, we are separated but still legally married. We were living overseas before our separation. I cannot be on his insurance policy any longer. It is not for the USA.

Thats hard. Why would they dont give you a health insurance if atleast you receive money every month? compared to our country, whether you have income or not, we can get a health insurance.

          Affordable Health insurance

I no longer get health insurance overseas because I moved back to the USA. My husband still lives overseas.

i think it differs by state. in my region, i created a multimember llc and was able to get a small group policy. a single member llc would allow a smaller group policy at 10-20% higher. the individual policy are 2-3x the small group rates. you probably have to show some activity in the llc, so do something and get paid something for it, but they don't seem to discriminate how much.

the alternatives include finding groups that band together, sometimes at a chamber of commerce or i think axa insurance used to do it. then you get a small group rate. you don't need to form an llc for that. lastly, the state offers something for low income individuals that can't qualify for medicare.

those are some ideas, but you have to check your own situation...

You just need to shop around - maybe find an insurance broker. Where I live, individual insurance is cheaper than small group insurance. If you are healthy, it may not be a big deal. Just price things out and get some information before jumping to the convulted and complicated.

Also, check out free and subsidized healthcare at lower income levels, particularly for your child (easier to get subsidized/government healthcare for kids). Each individual program is different based on income and/or assets, so just look around. Sometimes assets are not looked at for these type programs.

In a few months the insurance exchange system will be up and running, and it will be a completely different playing field. So, you would want to re-evaluate at that time.

                Health Insurance

It is a good idea to opt for a health insurance plan for the infants. This will eventually help the child to cope up with the losses incurred due to health related problems. Health insurance policies are quite beneficial for the individuals as well.
