  • I got arrested, can I still get a mortgage? How will it affect my credit?

~5 months ago I was arrested and charged with a felony. How will this affect my credit and will it get in the way of receiving a mortgage? Thanks.

It won't matter for your credit score.

If convicted you won't be able to buy a gun and you may have some restrictions about moving around the country or leaving the country, but it shouldn't matter at all for your credit rating.

banks do not rely solely upon a credit score for underwriting. if they do a background check, an arrest or conviction might show up. you may then need to do some explaining.

Getting arrested may not have any impact on your credit scores or ratings. But you will have to explain the reasons of arrest when you take out a mortgage. If the lender is convinced that it wasn’t a big issue, then you may not face any problems in getting a mortgage.

It's not a bigger problem in getting a mortgage. The only thing is that you must have to give an explanation if you were asked at that time. I think that there is less probability of affect on your credit score also. There are many lenders who offer a mortgage even in these types of situations.

Thanks, I was worried that they would see my arrest and instantly throw my application in the trash. I can confirm that it did not show up when my mortgage originator ran my credit. Just waiting for him to call and say "what's this?!"

Arrest records are publicly available, but not typically queried in the majority of screening cases. What you have to truly worry about his having a conviction (found guilty in court) on your record especially if it is a federal felony.

what you need to worry about more is if you did something seriously wrong. you need to work towards doing more benefit than the harm you may have caused. if you were arrested wrongly, i wouldn't worry.
