  • My wife is getting credit for a card in my name.

We have a Chase Freedom card that we use for everything. My wife has one in her name as well, but when I set it up, it was under "authorized users." Her credit has been going up as a result of good marks from Chase, however. While this is definitely not a complaint, I was under the impression that this was not how it worked.

We also have an REI Rewards VISA through US Bank with her name on it (me being the account holder). Will this work the same way? Thinking about using this card for things that the Chase Freedom doesn't cover under their 5% categories.

There does seem to be a change. My DH has a discover card which I am an authorized user on. I never signed anything or authorized them to look at my credit as part of his application . Yet it shows up on my credit report . We have an older card from our early marriage days. He is an authorized user on it, but yet it doesn't show up on his credit report.

    Odd.

It can't hurt to do so as long as the payment is made in full each month. Try and see if the same thing happens.

Authorized users should show up on the credit report as having the card AS AN AU.... I am on three of my mother's and DH is on two of mine and they all show up. It will help the score as long as it is paid in time and not a high ratio (ie, charing $499 on a $500 limit).

It will definitely help her credit score. However, her authorized user status will be notated, and any prospective credit grantor may review her report and factor that into their decision.
