Should I Stay In California?

Well,

I am being hit by the AMT currently, so doesn't that remove my state income/property tax deductions? I just emailed my CPA and asked him this question.

CA is in TROUBLE. There are way to many people relying on state benefits (welfare). This is what I am most concerned about. Hell, locally they just passed a proposition to issue more city bonds to pay for local schools!

I currently live in Texas and have lived in Texas my entire my life. I'm planning on going to college in Austin, specifically UT, so I know some about the area. Austin is a great place with lots of historical significance and things to do. There are tons of music groups and bands that you can listen to on the weekend, most of the time for free. However, it gets kind of hot in the summer.
