  • Dental claim on credit report in collections!

We had switched dental offices because of the insurance coverage that we just started with (GEHA) and found a participating dentist. When I called to make appointments I asked about the insurance to verify that they do accept it. They said they did and even said that since they are a participating dentist that they will adjust the costs of their services so that there are no out of pockets costs.
Fast forward to the 5 of us (2 adults & 3 kids) each having an appointment there. Afterwards we started receiving bills in the mail and we would call and they would say not to worry about it that they were "confused" on how to bill the insurance company....hmmmm...
In the end they sent us a bill for $560. We called multiple times and they kept saying that they were not sure how to bill the insurance company!

We then started getting phone calls from a collection agency. I explained to them what had happened they even agreed that we do not owe then any money! We went back and forth for several months and got no where.

I then filed a compliant with the Attorney Generals Office and they were the mediator between us. We finally said that we would pay $350 toward the $560 even though we didn't owe it, we were tired of all the run around and just wanted to be done with them! They refused the $350!
Next thing I know it is on our credit report as non-payment! My FICO scored plummeted 71 points!

Since then we obviously switched dentists and the new dentist is knowledgeable in billing our insurance company correctly and all 5 of us have been there and received the same services but paid no out of pocket expenses.

What can we do to get this off our credit report?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
