Re: What (financial concern) keeps you up at night?

Our mortgage used to really keep me up at night, thats our only real bill, we own our older trucks outright, no CC debt, mostly raise our own food and keep other bills at a minimum.

I'm ok with all of this now though, the reason is that we've just been ask to help my MIL with her finances, OMG, NEVER EVER EVER hand a financially uneducated person money! She waited until she hit disaster to ask for help and it's a financial nightmare! She's squandered almost all of it and can't cover her monthly bills without hitting what little she has left in bonds to make her condo payments! God love her, she's the sweetest person, but she seems to feel that she has to give to be loved, the younger brothers have taken her to the bank! We had no clue how bad it had gotten, we don't ask for money and graciously accepted the few gifts that she'd given us the last few years with no CLUE how much the others had ask for!

We're NOT bitter at the others and realize we can't change the past and that the brothers can't afford to pay her back, we're just trying to plug the leaks and try to get her to stop giving, she's going to end up homeless at this rate!

In learning all that is going on with the rest of the family I now sleep MUCH better! We're the only ones that are financially independent of the whole crew. I'm SO thankful to my mom for being so tight with a penny that she made copper wire out of it, she taught me well

Re: What (financial concern) keeps you up at night?

The only thing keeping me up at night is one of my kids (never know which one, but someone keeps me up!)

Honestly I am pretty well off enough that I don't need to lose sleep, or rather I have so small of a window to sleep I refuse to risk it by worrying!

(this doesn't mean I am debt free, far from it, or that I have a retirement fund, umm nope, or that money is easy, Hah!, just that when I do worry I remind myself how rich I am regardless of those things)

          1) Debts
          2) Finding a second job so I can afford said debts.
          3) Ways to lower my grocery budget.

Re: What (financial concern) keeps you up at night?

            1. Cashflow, I guess -- I'm not making a lot of money right now, but it's enough to cover my rent, car insurance, car payment, student loans, cell phone (my only phone), electricity bill, groceries. I just wish I made a little more so I could be saving more every month. (This is why I can't wait to get my master's and get the job I want which will pay twice as much as I'm making now).

            2. I've also found out I've got an interview in March for the grad school I hope to go to. So I've been trying to figure out if I can work full time still for health insurance and money for the bills, and try to squeeze in 3 classes a semester, and take out loans for the tuition... or go to school full time so I can get through it quicker, get health insurance through the school as a f/t student -- and hopefully be able to get an assistantship from the school which would cover some of the tuition and give me a couple thousand dollar stipend, and work a part time job on the side, taking out edu loans for the tuition the assistantship doesn't cover.

All this is up in the air right now. And I can't stop thinking about it!

I have always had worries about my husband not having a house to build, which would mean no income coming in. We have come close, but something has always come thru. Now we have saved enough to build a spec house, but waiting for other people worries me now. We closed on land on Oct. 16 and just got the basement poured this week. Now we are waiting on the grading guy, so basically, my husband is out of work for a few weeks. Lucky we have a big emergency fund, but I still wish I did not have to take the money out for a paycheck this week.(and the next few)

I'm hoping to get into the School Psychology program here, which will give me a Master's Degree and "Education Specialist" certification, and will allow me to be a Nationally Accredited School Psychologist, meaning I can work in any state without having to take new tests. (As we probably won't stay in NJ after my boyfriend's done with his PhD)

I worry if my husband loses his job. Our EF is lower than we want to be right now. That is my main priority in getting it up higher.

I worry about not being able to find a job that will pay my bills each month. I worry about not being able to find another place to live that I can afford and that is safe. I worry about what I will do if I get sick or get into an accident with not having insurance + missing days of work (if I ever actually find a job.) I worry that the money I have in savings will run out and I'll have no choice but to go begging to relatives for $ help.

I worry about A LOT of things, but seriously, money concerns aren't one of them, becus i live within my means. I've always been that way so i've never overextended myself or gotten into debt trouble.

I have concerns, like saving for retirement, but it's really not something that causes me to lose sleep.

                          1. debt
                          2. how to pay for Ale's school - education is EXPENSIVE in El Salvador...and we are talking elementary school, not even college or anything!- Ironically, college might be less expensive here due they have "differentiated fees" and you can get partial scholarships and so...but only for universities!
                          3. my car - I thought it might hold on for another 2 years...by then I have projected to be debt free and even to save some money to get a new(er) car...but, it's deteriorating fast, and, honestly, I don't think I want to spend another ~$700 a year in it just to keep it running... AND, no, mass transportation is not an option here, it is unsafe (in more than one way! - the National Assembly is still trying to pass a law that prohibits buses over 25 years from being used!, but, they can never get enough votes, because some legislators are bus-owners themselves, so....Aside from that, muggings in buses are so usual, now the government is putting armed police inside the buses....which somehow doesn't seem very reassuring to me...what if there's a shoot-out??...)...anyway, I really don't know what to do...any ideas are welcome! (I don't know how to ride a bike and it's too far to walk!)

I took out a loan one time to buy an old farmhouse and ten acres. i owed $95,000 dollars on it, the most I have owed in my life. It bothered me so much, that a year and a half later I sold it. I did not make much money, but I had a lot of relief. That was less than 2 years ago and now I wish I had it back, land is sky high around here now.
