  • Shell has finally created a rewards program

So Shell gas stations have finally created a real rewards program. They had that Winn Dixie partnership that sucked for us because there are hardly any Winn Dixies in my area. Last night, when filling up, I saw a pamphlet for their free rewards program, called "Fuel Rewards Network". You get a card from inside any Shell station and you register it online on fuelrewards.com. Now, they ask you to add your credit card information so that when you make a purchase at participating stores, they can add the per gallon savings to your fuel rewards card. I was wary about it, but after sleeping on it, I added the information this morning. And I'm actually really excited!

I don't know about anywhere else, but around here, Shell is SUPER expensive. I never, ever get gas there. Their prices are insane. The Shell closest to my house routinely charges 25 cents per gallon more than the station directly across the street from them. They aren't all quite that bad but pretty close. We often wonder why anybody goes there.

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

I'm always amazed by the price differences within 100 ft that people fail to notice.

For gas I use the PenFed Platinum Cash Rewards card. 5% off every gas purchase regardless of brand and you get the rewards in the form of statement credit every month. Love it....for gas only.

^^^and groceries... I swapped over to the points-based card, and get 3% for grocery purchases in addition to the 5% for gas. Definitely one of my go-to cards.

I don't even know where the closest Shell Station is to here. Everything around here is mostly BP and Exxon.

We used to never use Shell but now Lucky's has a partnership with them and luckily, the Shell station nearest to us has normal prices. For every $50 we spend at Lucky's, we get a 5 cent per gallon credit on our gas up to 20 gallons. We only use it on our van which has the largest gas tank and always make sure it is on empty.

AMEX Blue Cash Preferred for groceries. 6% cash back year round more than offsets the annual fee for our family.
