Cashing out your 401K is a horrible idea since you lose so much to tax, penalty and the compounding you will need in the future. I'm sorry your dad's ill and has lost his job. With the house in foreclosure, is dad eligible for any of the gov't programs? Does he have disability insurance? Is he eligible for any Unemployment program? What social services programs are available to him?
