  • Lowes Credit Card

I went ahead and got the Lowes Credit Card over the weekend. Everytime you use it you get 5% off, pretty nice. I never carry balances, so interest fees are of no concern. I go to Lowes quite often, and with the anticipation of owning a home coming late 2013, this will prove very useful!

Good plan! You can't really get more than 5% with any rewards card so it's a good move for you.

      Lowe's Credit Card

I recently got a Lowe's credit too, and that 5% has saved me quite a bit of money on some unexpected large purchases I had to make when fixing up a home I just sold. It's a pretty sweet deal, and I've found that Lowe's prices are about the same as Home Depot on most items. The extra 5% off helps to make Lowe's a little cheaper.

For those interested in such credit cards, Target has something similar -- gives you 5% off purchases. The thing with all these store credit cards is that you need to keep track of all the little bills instead of one credit card bill at the end of the month.

Credit limits can often be quite low for these retail cards too, so just make sure you pay close attention to your credit utilization ratio.

The only way to beat the Lowes credit card that I know of right now is to get the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred card that gives you 6% back at grocery stores so you can buy Lowes gift cards for yourself there and since you're buying them at a 6% discount, you're doing 20% better than the Lowes card. It does add an extra layer of planfulness to your purchases (which is sometimes a good thing) and the AMEX carries a $75 annual fee.

True, we have the Lowes account card for contractors. When I filled out the application I put our average spending of $550 a month as the answer to "How much do you spend every month" Now we are stuck with it. A contractor spending only $550 a month at a supply store. Ha! If I had known that they would take the exact amount I entered I would have written $1500.

I got a 6k credit limit on my Lowes Card. I was really surprised actually. I wont come close, for now, to going over 30% of that.

you can move with this card, and be sure there is no hidden charges.

                      Lowes Credit Card

I actually prefer Lowe’s over Home Depot. From my experience, the customer service is a bit better. At Home Depot, every time I go I have to travel 10 aisles down just to find an associate to help, only to tell me that’s not their department and for me to go back and wait… it’s a huge pain in the behind to shop there.
