  • Applying for the Am Exp Blue Cash card

Had a recent credit score dilemma which has been cleared up. Got a false negative account erased and my credit has rebounded substantially. So well that I was pre-approved for the Chase Freedom card upon opening a checking account with them on Friday. I have also received paperwork regarding the Discover More card (I would assume I am pre-approved for that as well if they are seeking out my application of a specific card).

I know these awesome reward cards require good credit which is why I am hesitant to apply for the Am Exp Blue cash card. I do not want to take the hard inquiry hit if I am not positive I will be accepted for the card.

What do you guys think about my situation? I do not know my exact scores, however I do believe my EX and EQ are both above 700. TU was the only bureau to report the false negative.

You could go to annualcreditreport.com, get your free credit report from one (or all three) of the agencies and for a few bucks (~$5-8) you could get their "score" for you.

If you know your credit score is above 700, I think you should be fine getting the Amex Blue Cash. Are you applying for the Chase Freedom or Discover card as well? If so, I would wait a couple months in between so that it doesn't seem like you are opening several accounts at once, but if you were just using those pre-approvals as a metric, I don't see any issue.

Yeah, if you're over 700, you should be fine. I would take whichever one is offering the best sign-on bonus right now. Probably Chase Freedom. Then add the others.
