My favorite part of Discover rewards is that the 5% cash back is even higher when you get a gift card. It's like an extra 0.5% of yield that way.

The fine print is always annoying, like when I found out that Discover's cash back on everything else is UP TO 1% (meaning 0.1% for the first $5000 you spend annually or something).

I'm averaging about 45 dollars per month. The last three months have been over 50.

I also love to keep track of my credit card rewards in a handy excel spreadsheet. Last year, I averaged a cash back return of 3.2% on my credit card expenditures, although my expenses are fairly low as a student.

I just cleaned out the Customer Service desk at Costco the other day for all the cash they had on hand Of course, they wanted me to just apply part of the cash rebate from my Amex TrueEarnings card to whatever I purchased that day, but I politely declined, walked out with my bundle of cash, and promptly deposited it into one of my checking accounts before transferring it to an online savings account. Love free money!
