      Steve,

The $300 for personal fun is during the school year - in the summer it's only $200 and usually that ends up coming from the extra music lessons, rather than the budget - not sure if that makes it better, but hope so! I realize that it's quite a bit, but it's less than 10% of our net income...

      The $625 is:

      $400 groceries
$100 household (ie shampoo, Clorox wipes, towels, toilet paper, etc)
      $125 gas for DH

Groceries are more expensive because we buy meat from a butcher or get the free-range meat, get our milk delivered, and don't buy a lot of processed food - plus my DH likes meat at every meal, something he refuses to compromise on (although we have switched to more fish and such and only have red meat once or twice a month).

No life insurance for DH - we tried and they wanted to charge a crazy amount for rock climbing, and we haven't gone back to shopping around - probably should do that though, maybe once my paper gets written and is in review.

In 12 months, we'll both still probably be in school - hopefully in 24 months DH will be done with his PhD in music comp and either teaching (untenured) or doing lessons or something, his job will be hard to nail down until I'm done, since we will probably have to move for him to find a good position. So we are basically locked into lower incomes until I finish, with my goal being to finish in May-Dec of 2013 (it's a PhD so timeline isn't set in stone).

I will try and increase the retirement for 2012, we are set to max the Roths for 2011 though!

      Thanks y'all
