  • Great Quote...

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.
    - Ellen Goodman

All too true. What are you doing to make sure you aren't "normal"?

Well to go along those lines...my quote is "No Risk, No Gain" this year in order to obtain abnormalcy (sp?) LOL.

I once worked with a psychiatrist and he said, "The insane actually feel like they are the only sane person in an insane world."

I'm extremely abnormal financially, I fear.

I own no car, so I bus.
I rent so I have no mortgage. (It is a year-to-year lease)
I have about 220$ worth of debt which I pay off as I get the bill.
I have one year's worth of emergency savings.

I don't know why I didn't just listen to the TV and buy stuff, but I didn't and there it is... My favorite quote is a two liner:
"The rich are different from you and me."
        "Sure, they have more money."

We've been so not normal that, at age 42, Dh was able to leave his high stress, long commute job, and work from home part time. It's been 4 months and we haven't seen any difference in our lifestyle. Wierd how we THOUGHT we couldn't make do on less, but in reality, we lived on only a portion of it and paid huge chunks into retirement funds and on the mortgage...paying the mortgage down and then refinancing it, cut $1000 off our budget every month!

            we own our vehicles outright
we buy mostly thrift store clothes (all I need for farming)
we DO owe on the farm
I get to work at/from home, not much money but TONS of savings and the satisfaction of the farm and animals is more satisfying than a paycheck (most of the time, lol!)
