  • Simple way to get a credit without annual fees

This is a super easy and yes I have done it.

    STEP 1: apply for card
STEP 2: receive card in mail
STEP 3: call credit card company and say you want your account closed (say this even though the card has not been opened) they will tranfer you to the retention department
STEP 4: the retention rep will ask why you dont want the card. Say you dont want the card because the annual fee is unnaceptable and you didn't realize there would be one (be very clear that you don't need or truly want a credit card)
STEP 5: listen with satisfaction as the rep says "no problem we will waive the fee" make sure they agree to waive it on a perpetual basis, and yes they will.

Guess I've never been that hard up to want a credit card.

Why not just apply for a card that has no fee instead?

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
      * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

Agreed. There are plenty of good cards out there without a fee. Why go through all of this?

To get your post count higher??? Oh, you mean those credit card steps - I've got no clue why anyone would bother.

Yeah because this entire process takes 3 minutes, literally 3 minutes on the phone. Finding a credit card without the fees would take longer. Most charge fees, and how does this make you "hard up" to get a credit card. If 3 minutes saves you $60-80 a year I'd say it;s worth it

Too bad there's never an intelligent person on the other end who may ask, "well if you don't need or want the card, then why did you apply for it in the first place?"

I'd do as others suggested above and apply for a card without an annual fee.

I have one credit card and they pay me to use the card! PRICELESS!

(and I pay it off in full each month)
                    Gunga galunga...gunga -- gunga galunga.

It may appear simple steps, but I'd rather apply for credit card with no annual fees if I want one.
