  • How much do you pay for childcare

Just kinda a spin off the other thread I see that is a cost of having kids. MY kids are not in daycare because daycare here costs so much it wouldnt be worth it for me to work outside the home. But when I did work I had one daughter in daycare I paid $85 a week this was for FT in someones home. I am just trying to get some ideas of how people who have more than 1 child in daycare can afford it.

I don't have children in daycare, but when I was tending the neighbors baby last year she paid me $15 a day. 7am-3pm (would equate to $75 for a 5 day week but it was sporadic.) I think the going rate in our area for 1 child now is between $18 and $25 a day depending on the age of the child, type of care and legnth of the day.

$750 and that's the cheapest you can find around here...

Although my children have never been in daycare, I have done some babysitting and the going rate here is 25.00 per day, more if it's a baby or toddler. My cousin has a home daycare and she charges 5 dollars more per day for kids who are not toilet trained.

My wife and I pay $125 for a 5-day week for our 5-month old.

My kids are in school now, but for after school care I pay $5 per child. When school is not in session, they can go to the park department (winter breaks and such) for $20 a day (and I still have to pay for our send a lunch in addition to that).
My cousin pays $250 a week for her infant in a daycare center. After the child turns 2, the rate will drop to $175 a week.

That is close to what I paid in the State of Florida. CJ's care while an infant was $200 per week and has gone down to $185 now that he is 21 months. When he reaches 2 years of age, his cost will go to $165.

Wow, I need to move where you all live.

I pay $667/month for three days a week. The daycare calculates their rate monthly but assumes each month has 4.3 weeks, so that's $155 per week for 3 days, or $52/day. Son is 22 months.

Our first daycare cost $78/day for an infant.

There are a lot of home daycares in our area but the good ones have 3-year waiting lists. The lady next door watches kids but we don't spank and she does, plus there are other pretty serious philosophical differences.

I think $400/mo here would be very cheap. $500-$600/mo is probably more realistic. That's for Kindercare-type places. I have no idea what the going rates are for in-home daycare.

Remember to include the costs (if any) of your own background checks on the daycare owners and history of the care facility. It's worth it. Many states allow you to check facility violation history information free of charge, but you are ONLY receiving information about the facility, not the owners. In this day and age folks, we owe it to our children to protect them in every way possible.

I had to do this with CJ's first daycare. Needless to say, he was taken out of it immediately and placed in a better daycare.
