  • Turbo Tax vs H&R Block?

Just seeing how many people prefer turbo tax or going to H&R Block and having them do it?

I've done both before, I like knowing H&R block will make me worry free on audits and everything gets taken care of.

    What do you all think?

Also I have a house to write off now, do I need deluxe turbo tax or can I still use the free basic one?

I use Turbo Tax and have for years. As long as you have all of your data it's pretty self explanatory and the program guides you all the way through it. I have been a homeowner for years with investments etc and still use Turbo Tax. I think either will do but H & R Block will typically charge you a heck of a lot more money than the Turbo Tax will.

I suppose you can reach a point of complexity in ones income situation but at that point I don't think I would opt for H & R Block anyway.

I've used TT or TaxCut for years...I've never paid anyone to do my taxes since I have an accounting degree. However, my parents refused for years to let me do their taxes. They paid a LOT of money to Block every year for them to do what I consider a VERY simple return (dad was retired, mom worked, house, no investments). When they finally agreed to let me do their taxes I found deductions that Block missed. And these weren't obscure deductions either! I have an accounting degree, but I am not a CPA and do not keep myself current on personal tax code by any stretch. The software programs are comprehensive and are at a great price!
