Exactly. How many bills are left to be paid?

    Rent only.

You already paid the other 2 bills.

Or let me put it to you a different way, to show that you're double counting your own share of the internet/netflix expense.

      Total for the 3 bills: 1217 + 67.68 + 7.99 = 1292.67

Let's say each of the other two people pay their share of $430.89 using checks from their accounts

      So 1292.67 - 430.89 - 430.89 = 430.89 left.

Now out of your account, 67.68 already left to the internet co., and 7.99 left to Netflix. Now, using your calcuation, you still owe $380.44. So you write a check for $380.44 - and this too comes out of your account.

      380.44 + 67.68 + 7.99 = $456.11

Which is more than the other 2 people paid. How much more?

      456.11 - 430.89 = 25.22

And what was your share of the internet? 22.56. And Netflix? 2.66

      22.56 + 2.66 = 25.22

Even though I pay two of the bills internet and netflix , those costs are divided between us

so should I just pay the 405$ as rent and ask my friends to pay me $50.45

I get that But you already paid your share - and their's. You're forgetting that your portion of those bills is also included in your $430.89.

So since you've paid those two bills, you only owe a piece of rent, and your roommates both owe you for the internet/netflix bills.

Your share of rent is $405.67. Your share of internet is 22.56 (PAID), and your share of netflix is 2.66 (PAID). And each of them owes you 22.56+2.66 = 25.22 for a total of 50.44.

So technically, you owe 405.67 - and they owe you 50.44; so you owe 355.22 net.

so should I just pay the 405$ as rent and ask my friends to pay me $50.45
However you guys decide to structure it so that you only pay that amount is up to you.

But why write a check for $405, and get them to rebate you 25.22 each - when you could just say, "I deducted your portion of the netflix and internet bills from the check, here you go" and hand them a check for $355.22. Or make it $356 for ease.

If they don't believe you, send them on here to check it out

Okay, all, I'm sorry. I finally had time to really look at this and hear what everyone has said.

I am wrong. DS is also wrong! (so there).
MM is correct and JPG is correct.

Assuming the rent is really 1215 and you are not the person turning in the rent money to the Landowner and assuming that you know that they are not cheating you there....

Here's the lineup (which is the best I can do alignment-wise because of the limits of formatting within html):

                1--- 354.56 + 25.22 + 25.22 + 25.22 = 430.22
                2--- 405
                3--- 405
                sum ----
                4---1164.56
                5--- 25.22
                6--- 25.22
                sum ----
                7--- 1215

line 1 = 354.56 is the amount of rent you should give to them
line 1 = the remaining part of ine 1 is what you pay for internet and netflix on behalf of all
line 2 = the amount of rent currently paid by person 2
line 3 = the amount of rent currently paid by person 3
line 4 = the amount of rent that is paid by you and them ... and they alone must make up the shortfall
line 5 = the extra 25.22 a month that person 2 must pay for rent because it was his share of Internet + netflix
line 6 = the extra 25.22 a month that person 3 must pay for rent because it was his share of Internet + netflix
                line 7 = the total rent (lines 4 5 & 6)

The duplication is in your share, but it's because you've always paid your share and the others were not paying. I thought you just move over the 25.22 to each of the other persons, but that does not quite work out mathematically because that extra 25.22 from you cannot remain in rent either.

You cannot pay internet/netflix + rent at the same time with the same monies. That's why me & DS are wrong, and that's why MM & JPG are right.

                This is wrong:
                379.78 + 25.22 + 25.22 = 430.22
                405
                405
                ----
                1189.78
                25.22
                25.22
                ----
                1240.22 (that's a wrong number because your internet and netflix is already within that number 379.78) ---- 1240.22 - 25.22 = 1215 379.78 - 25.22 = 354.56

Sorry for adding to the confusion in this thread.

By my calculations, OP should be paying 354.55 to whom ever is paying the rent.

                  Everyone owes 430.22.

                  His rent 405.00

                  The others owe him 50.45

                  405.00-50.45= 354.55

Yes, that is correct. Nice and to the point.

The OP's rent check would be 354.56

Thank you every one for helping, especially Seeker,jpg7n16,MonkeyMama I really appreciate it.

I have shown this to my friends and they agree, I paid this month's rent as 355$.

And from next month I will be paying 25$ less since I have been paying extra YAY
