  • FAFSA question

Hi everyone. I've been looking at FAFSA web sites to determine the age where a student is considered independent of their parents and eligibility for financial aide is based solely on their own income. I've been able to establish that 23 years of age is when a change occurs, but it's still a bit unclear for my situation.

DD has a birthday in early September. She's 20, but is going to school part time for now. She would like to get some things in order and be able to return to school full time within the next year. According to the information I've found I'm not sure if she would be considered independent for the school year in which she will turn 23, since she'll be filling out applications while she's still 22 and will actually still be 22 for the first week or two of school or if she will still be considered dependent on us for another year.

Does anyone know about this and can you offer me any information? Thank you. As always, I really appreciate the help I find on this site.

Thanks cooliemae. While it's not what I'd hoped for, at least it's clear!
