Social security and unemployment question

I have a question for you guys from my dad. He lives in Michigan and wanted to know if you can draw social security and umemployment at the same time? Thanks for the help.

I recently had to answer the same question for myself. Here is my conclusion:

Taking Soc now would permanently REDUCE my benefits
The week I get a soc check would be a non-payment week for unemployment (lose $385)
My monthly soc benefits = my monthly unemployment benefits for full 4 weeks

I have chose to NOT take soc now. Why comprimise what I will get in 1.5 years? The loss would be a permanent $200/month and given my family history that is likely to be 25-30 years (Dad is 92, mom died at 86). I do have sufficient saved to cover my basic expenses over what unemployment pays in my EF until FULL soc kicks in.
