unclaimed social security check

I have an aunt who died a couple years ago and while going through the house we found a social security check dated 1998. Can the check be reissued to be cashed? Because it's still money that the federal government still owes to that person.

Yes, it can be. All you need to do (I think), is go down to your local SS Office with the "Death Certificate" and the check and of course, your ID.
