I drive a '98 4Runner with about 170k miles on it. It's been ridiculously good to me. Might buy a used 2011 4Runner in 2012 if I'm feeling adventurous and can save enough to pay cash.

        89 Nissan Sentra - 366+k miles, 30 mpg
94 Jeep Cherokee - don't know the odometer number, 20ish mpg
84 Honda Goldwing - don't know the odometer number, 30+ mpg

We swap around who drives what, well, between the Jeep and the Nissan depending on who has farther to drive. The bike is purely my husband's and he rides it back and forth to work in the summers. He tries to go on a bike ride or two at some point, but that doesn't always happen. I hate the Jeep, so I tend to drive the Nissan more. DH also does off-roading in the Jeep.

The Nissan is getting on in years and is near the end of it's life cycle. We haven't found a car that we both like to replace it with yet.

I drive a 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid with about 50,000 miles on it. It gets about 40mpg.
Hubby drives a 2005 BMW X3 with about 85,000 miles on it. I think he gets about 24mpg.

We pretty much take the Camry everywhere. We just drove from northern NJ to Disney a few weeks ago in it. Probably the 4th or 5th time we've done that.

          Both cars are paid off.

            I drive a 1998 Toyota Camry with 130,000 miles.
Wife drives a 2000 Toyota Sienna with 127,000 miles.

Not sure of the mpg on either.

              2001 Ford Escort 38mpg
              2005 Dodge Grand Caravan 22mpg

The Ford is our primarily vehicle for travel and commuting - you can see why. But, is nice to have a bigger vehicle, on occasion.

+1 on the hondas and toyotas. I'm gonna drive mine till the wheels fall off!
My BMW came with 100k maintenance free which covers oil changes, brakes, belts etc....so hopefully she lasts as well!

I agree.... We use the corolla for daily use, and I don't care where I park it...don't worry about door dings or scratches or anything... Trucks and vans just come in so handy for hauling people and Costco trips!

                      2008 Honda Fit - ~28 mpg - 36,000 miles owned free & clear
                      2009 Honda Civic - ~25 mpg - 12,000 miles leased ends 4/2012

Since I live and work on campus we are trying to use my Civic to it's max miles and basically failing. My husband will start driving it more regularly as we near the end of the lease. Saving right now to buy a used 08 or 09 Fit or CRV at the end of the lease. I admit that I am a loyal Honda owner. It is the only brand loyalty I have.

My understanding of a rough estimate for mpg on older autos is as follows:

                        4 cylinder = 20-25 mpg
                        6 cylinder = 15-20 mpg
                        8 cylinder = 10-15 mpg

Again, very rough estimate and the newer technology in today's autos are very much underestimated above.

                        ----

                        We own both our autos:
'00 Honda CR-V, approx 115k miles on it now, and as above 20-25 mpg depending on how much highway driving.
'07 Honda Civic Hybrid, no idea of the mileage ATM, with approx 40-45 mpg as it's mostly highway driven.

                          Modifying the above slightly

The smaller 4 cylinder cars can go above 25 mpg.

My CRV is an older model, and the newer CRV can probably get 30 since they are more auto-like than mine.

The older Toyota Corolla we had, also got like 31 mpg as well, but that too was highway driving, and it was a 2000 as well.

                              My wife drives a Toyota Camry 1998 w/ 178k on it/30mpg
                              I drive a 2007 Mitsubishi Galant ES w/ 63k on it/30mpg

We are looking at a Nissan Pathfinder 2006 w/ approximately 60k on it next year to replace the wives car. We need something bigger for hauling stuff around, camping, bike trips, etc.... She is a landscape Architect and is getting tired of shoving plants and tools in her little Camry trunk.
