  • When should we buy life insurance?

As a newly married couple, When should we buy life insurance?

  • #2
    Earlier the better.

Do you have children? If not, are you planning on having children? If so, when you have children are you planning on quiting your job and staying home to take care of them?

Do you have any life insurance through your job? Does your spouse?

If you both work and you can afford all your expenses on 1 income (in case one person dies), you may not need any life ins. But I would purchase some before you start to think about a family. It is much cheaper when you are young and healthy.

      my 2 cents,

      Joe

If you want to buy the life insurance ,in the meanwhile ,you can afford to buy it , this is the right time , because the risk will not be delayed due that you didn't buy it .

The simple answer is as soon as possible. The reason being, the older you get the more expensive the insurance premiums will become. Also shop a round a lot before you decide which insurance policy to go for. Additionally read the fine print and don't take a policy in haste. Insurance salesman can by very pushy

IMO you buy life insurance when you need it, and not a moment before. Life insurance is to help your SO pay for an asset that he or she may not be able to pay for alone. Generally that asset is a major one, like a "home."

If you marry and both work and rent, you may not have an immediate need.

When you start growing your family (children), then there is a greater need in most cases... and in fact, that's when most people start looking at life insurance, when they have a baby.
