Same with the flip-flops. Yes, you can get a pair for $5 or less. A little better quality pair might be $10 or $15, maybe even $20 for something really nice. But $360? That's right up there with the $800 purse in my mind.Steve

She used that pricetag to justify spending $300 on a different, lesser name brand.

I can't imagine any flip flops being worth $350...I know they are popular, but I think they are uncomfortable not to mention not real safe for a lot of walking, but that's old age and sore feet talking.
Nordstrom's is always worth a good chuckle, that's for sure. When we take our cheapie bus trip to Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg once a year, we usually go in there so we can get shocked and walk out marveling at the prices and the way folks flock to the marked down section there. I know it's relative, but I guess buying at a fancy store doesn't thrill me enough to overpay.

Obviously the folks that post here are not Nordstrom's target market. I've wondered about the mandate of Nordstrom's merchandise buyers. Is the chain healthy? The percentage of people who can afford Nordstrom's pricing and enjoy their legendary customer service is surely small.

I also know numerous people who are older and perfectly responsible but have an affinity for certain costly items. One friend, for example, owns numerous Coach handbags costing hundreds of dollars each. I hardly ever see her dressed in anything but jeans and a casual shirt but she is always carrying a Coach bag, so that is where she chooses to spend her money.
I'm sure Nordstrom's knows what they are doing. It may not appeal to me, but it clearly appeals to lots of others.Steve
