  • American Express card?

    Hey all,
Just curious on whether to get an american express card to earn air miles?
I'm planning on a vacation with my girlfriend next year and figured I could get a free ticket from the rewards.
I currently have a becu cc, sears cc, and macys cc, I only use my becu cc though.
My parents suggested to just use the american express card for every single expense and pay it off each month full of course.
With the annual fees, is it even worth it? anyone on here that actually uses their card for every purchase?

I have the "retirement rewards" American Express card and I use it for everyday purchases like gas, tolls, food, etc. But I would be wary of an annual fee. How much is the fee? Lots of rewards cards don't have any annual fee, including mine. It is very important to pay it off in full every month because rewards cards typically have a higher APR than other cards, and the interest will quickly outweigh the reward if you're not careful.

I also check mint.com daily to look at the budget graphs, because (for me anyway) a credit card really obscures the concept of how much is spent vs. how much is left. But mint makes it more visual for me so I can avoid spending too much. I am a very visual person so I need that!

I'm trying to check the annual fee's and all the rest of the hidden fees. Also must make sure the miles never expire. I'm not a huge spender, but if I use it for every single purchase it might be worth it.

Many smaller shops/services do not accept AMX as their fees are higher than MC or VISA.

I have an American Express Blue Card. It's a revolving type card. No annual fee.

I put everything I can on it. I earn points that you can use to get stuff on their shopping site. I just cashed in 87,000 points and got a Dyson vacuum worth $499. I earned all those points without ever paying a dime in interest charges.

Not sure if you can use these points for airline travel. But they have cards that do. I think the flexibility that you can revolve the charges if you have a tight month - unlike the traditional AMEX cards. Also, the revolving card has a set limit. The traditional cards don't.
