Is there a way to activate a credit card by phone without having to endure sales pitches?

Sales pitch is difficult to avoid - Page 2 - SFGate
"It's very frustrating," said San Francisco resident Larry Berger, who activated a new BofA debit card the other day. "My goal when I called was to get my card going. They were deliberately steering me away from my goal.

"They keep asking me questions with clear yes or no answers," he added, "but don't give me a chance to say no."

I contacted BofA to find out more about the bank's card-activation procedure. I related that I'd heard from numerous people about experiences similar to what Berger had described.

And what do you know? The bank admitted that it hasn't been treating customers very well.

If they are not beating you up with additional hidden fees for every little thing, they are trying to upsell you or cross-sell you every chance they get.

Between the banks and the airlines, I don't know who is worse these days.

        The airlines are still worse.
You can take water with you into a bank branch, and the bank accepts legal tender.
However, airlines do not accept cash payment for alcoholic beverages.
