One in eight to cut cable or satellite TV in 2010 - Apr. 30, 2010

I'm often surprised at how much people pay for tv service each month. We dropped it 2 years ago, and now get our programming OTA. We also have a PC connected to our TV for recording purposes and streaming content from the internet.

I'm not sure what OTA is but we will not get rid of our cable. (unless living depended upon it of course) we are not people that go out and dance or party or whatever people do that go out. we are more the type to watch tv or play on our computers. I pay about 120 a month for cable and internet together. we have two dvr boxes and pay for extra channels. for us it is worth it. for others it might not be. very rarely do we go to the movies. I hate the movie theatre. it is so noisy and dirty. I would rather just wait and watch it on my cable channels. Though I don't think I will win with regards to Iron Man 2. SO is determined to see that next week.

Cicy33, I would challenge you to consider life without cable. What shows are legally free online? What movies can you watch on netflix instant or hulu? What would you be losing if you dropped cable? How much money would you save? Outside of hardcore football fans, I have yet to find someone who could not easily substitute cable & dvr with internet tv. Btw, I also never go out, but my husband and I only spend $18 a month on Netflix. (Our internet is currently included, but we paid $50 when we did pay).

OTA = over the air (ie. local broadcasts received via antenna).

When we bought our new house (almost a year ago) we decided to make the switch to OTA. It was shortly before the conversion to digital TV, so the timing was perfect. We had been planning to get a new TV but waited until we had our house. We had an antenna installed and bought a digital ready TV. We don't miss cable at all, and we really don't miss the monthly bill!
