It looks like we'll be closing on our new home the first week of November!
I have a question about the picture ID needed at closing. The name I will be using on the title of the house and all the mortgage documents will be my First name, Maiden last name (as middle name) and Married last name. That is what I use for personal use all the time anyway. I have credit cards with that name as well as our joint bank accounts.
However, all my photo IDs - DL and passport - are in my maiden name. I have my original marriage certificate with my name change stated as well as my social security card with my first, maiden and married names. (i.e. Jane Smith Jones) I wonder if I can use my photo ID with my maiden name with my marriage certificate at the closing?
I realize the quickest fix would be to get myself to the DMV and get my name changed on my DL. I still use my maiden name for professional reasons only - at work. And I need to get documents notarized frequently for work, so it has always been easier to keep my DL in my maiden name for that.
If I do HAVE to update my DL, as hypothetically Jane Smith Jones, will I still be able to get documents notarized as Jane Smith? Worst case scenario, I guess I will lug my passport around as ID.
I would prefer to change the name on my passport instead of my DL, but don't think I will have time to get it back before closing.
I'm going to verify with lender to see what my options are (during working hours) but wanted to know if anyone knew from experience.
Thanks.
