  • Do you have flood and/or "umbrella" liability insurance?

I've noticed that quite a few of us have a lot of our net worth in real estate be it our personal residences or investment properties. I was thinking of ways (besides a general decline in the market) that these assests could be taken away and two biggies popped into my mind -- flooding or being sued. So, who here has flood and/or personal excess liability coverage?

Full disclosure: I don't have flood insurance, which is odd because our last house had a flood. I guess I'm hoping another "700 year storm" doesn't happen anytime soon. (I guess federal flood insurance also doesn't cover finished basements, which was where all of our losses occured.) I do have umbrella liability insurance.

We have a $1million umbrella policy that costs us about $140(?) per year. It seems well worth it to me given the litigous society that we live in.
