Can Moving Costs Be a Tax Write off?

We are moving in the next month and a friend of mine was telling me that all of our moving expenses can be written off on income taxes. We are not relocating for a job or anything I should also add. We will be renting a truck and a POD so all in all it will be around $1000 once all the moving supplies are factored in. Can this all be considered a tax deduction? It sounded a bit strange to me but Im not a tax expert by any stretch.
