  • Building credit in the U.S. when I am from overseas...

    Hello:

First of all, I am new here and hopefully I am posting this on the correct forum. If not, sorry!

    To set the scene...
I am 24 years old, university graduate, who moved here to the U.S. from the U.K. almost two years ago after I graduated. I have never had bad credit or done anything that would give me bad credit (that I know of) but my credit score is still really low over here. I have had a bank account over here for four years (I worked a couple of summers here and needed an account) and my social security number for four years, too. I have a credit card now (Capital One gave me one after so many other places rejected me!) which I have had for 8 months. I pay all my bills on time... car insurance, phone, rent, etc.

What else can I do to help my score? Is there some way that I can have my record from when I lived in the U.K. transfered to here?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thansk

Unfortunately, your UK credit report is separate from your US one and cannot be transferred in any way. You will have to build your US score as if from nothing, like starting over. It will just take time! There's no quick fix.
