That's why I am glad that I have Pre-Paid Legal.

Instead, I'd find my case being deliberated by people with no medical education whatsoever.
I agree with you. It would make sense if the courts were attempting to live up to the "peers" ideal.

not to knock lawyers but they failed miserably in choosing the most intelligent but not necessarily educated (based on the 2 times that i've been on a jury). i think education and intelligence are loose corollaries to each other. i've never seen such incompetence except at the local post office.

lol - this reminds me of a question that was asked of me by a lawyer while going through the questioning phase for jury selection...

lawyer: You work location A, you live at location B... is it safe for me to believe that you are not familiar with the location where x street crosses y street?

          me: Yes

Lawyer looks at me, but before he could say anymore, I added: "I am not familiar with that location."

          ---

Certain professions can be excused.... but not everyone can be... and it's rather extreme to say that people can get out of serving if they "know how." Financial hardship is not enough to get an "excuse" from serving entirely... though some judges will not let you serve on an expected long-lasting case if they know of your financial issues.

To some extent, no matter how impartial we try to be, our own needs will intrude and interfere with our ability to be of service under some situations. While in a hall waiting... waiting... and waiting again... it's sort of frustrating to those whom are not paid and it does truely seem a waste of time and energy while we can be doing other things that are of importance to us as well.
