    combined gross salary: $110K
retirement savings; $640K (about half of that is in taxable accounts)
    cash/emergency: $25K
    house value (no mortgage): $350K

Yes, this board is hard to get used to in that way.

I think it's healthy. You can learn a lot from a big group of people who are all willing to tell you what's really going on in their financial lives.

True. This board is somewhat unique. I'm on another board where finances are discussed but people don't reveal personal details. Things are discussed in much more general terms. That's okay, but sometimes it is hard to really understand what is going on or to answer certain questions without actual numbers.

I understand that it would be a touchy subject to reveal so much to my family/friend/coworkers/etc. However, I don't know any of the other posters in real life, so it doesn't bother me all that much.

Now, if I ever found out that DisneySteve is my neighbor or that kenyantykoon actually works with me, then I would probably be more hestitant to provide details.

Seeing where everyone else is makes me kind of sad where dh and I stand. But we are better than a good many in our family. I'm trying to get him on board with starting to seriously save. I think I'll send him the link to this discussion.

                          Age:
                          22, single, no kids

                          Income:
Gross 20k as of now(unemployment/waiting tables/sidework). I got laid off in January at a Gross of 34k (at 80% rate of pay). When I'm called back to work (within 6-12 months estimated) my job's full time pay is around 52k (working 35 hours a week) but if I bid on different jobs at my work more it's more like 60-90k, so I am offered flexibility but I would definitely choose to work less and make less. Currently my job is working for the railroad

                          Savings Plan:
I was saving a flat 10% of my net income and putting it into my high yield savings as an EF. When I got laid off I had to draw it out to pay off all my debts so It's kind of on hold for now. I also was putting 10% of my Gross towards my 401k, my company payed $.30 on the dollar up to 6% of my pay check. I was planning on using the 10% after my EF was fully funded to use for other investments, but because it was taking a while to fill up I was just using other money I had lumping up in my checking/savings to throw towards stocks/bonds just for the excitement and prospects of extra passive income.

                          Debts:
None! Paid it all off, and I got grants and reimbursement to pay for my college that I go to part time. ( I have no immediate intentions of using my education for my career, I work as a conductor for the railroad normally and am very satisfied with my job currently.)

                          Accounts:
Bank Account Checking + Saving: ~$1,700
                          Emergency Fund: ~$5.95
                          Roth IRA: ~$0.00
                          401(K): $2,200.00
                          Investments: ~$2000.00

Large Assets, not including primary vehicle:
1972 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible for sale for $5000
1986 Toyota Celica for sale for $1500
About $3500 worth of Musical Instruments/equipment

                            assets:
                            primary vehicle - 5000
                            motorcycle - 2000

PS: its sad we really do not have as much savings as we should have. However in this economy, during last 2 years my SO has been laid off 3 times and just got a lay off notice at his current company (they are shutting down the whole dept). Lay off is in 3 months so hopefully he finds something by then
