Unfortunately, that often is the sad truth... I'm with you -- almost afraid not to save, just in case something does go wrong. I have an aversion to owing money to others, even for a short period of time (thanks mom and dad). However, not everyone is like that. It's just a difference in thinking. Perhaps they have a means of affording it, or plans to be able to, or simply just don't mind being in debt. whatever the case, they're more comfortable living on the "financial edge" than you... and personally, I'm perfectly fine with staying well away from that edge. I have a phobia of falling.

Lots of people "live for today" and not for the future. If you think about it, that is the attitude the marketing people project in all the advertising that surrounds us.

Yeah, agreed. I know a lot of people who go on nice vacations, have homes in nice areas, drive nice cars, dress nicely, eat out at fancy restaurants a lot, etc. But I have to believe that they'd rather have the SYMBOLS of wealth and success rather than actually building wealth.

I wouldn't sweat it. You have to believe in your approach/game plan. Look at it this way, if they can afford to drive a $50,000 automobile they could also gotten the same one for half the cost. A luxury item here and there is fine but luxury everything gives you an insight into their values.

It's not how much you spend, it's how much you keep!
